Fine Arts Series Features Mezzo-Soprano
Cheryse McLeod Lewis, a mezzo-soprano, will give a master class on the 9th of February and a recital on February 10, 2011, at Fayetteville State University (FSU). The master class will be held at noon in the Rosenthal Choir Room, and the recital, including a performance with the FSU Concert Choir, will be at 7 p.m. in J.W. Seabrook Auditorium. Both events are free and open to the public.
Lewis sings a beautiful program that celebrates the rich history of African Americans including Lee Hoiby’s musical setting of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Her performance with the FSU Concert Choir will include an arrangement of spirituals that will satisfy the soul.
A native of Greensboro, Lewis earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her Professional Artist Certificate from the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
Lewis is appearing as part of FSU’s Fine Arts Series, and her visit is made possible in part by a grant from the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County.
